WELCOME TO THE WEBSITE OF OLIVE GROWERS MUDGEE (OGM)
WHO AND WHERE ARE WE?
We are a group of olive growers in the Mudgee district on the NSW Central Tablelands. Mudgee is located about 250km northwest of Sydney and is the second oldest town on the western side of the Great Dividing Range, being founded in 1821. Mudgee means "Nest in the Hills" in Wiradjuri, the language of the Aboriginal inhabitants. The town has some fine old commercial buildings and churches.
Agriculturally, the principal activities are sheep and cattle production, viticulture and
wine production (over 30 wineries offering a range of wines), honey productions and
now, olive growing, both for oil and table olives. Several olive producers now have
"press-door" operations and their numbers are growing. The region also has literary
associations with the writer Henry Lawson, who spent most of his childhood in the
district, and who set many of his gold rush era (1870's) short stories in the vicinity of
Mudgee and the neighbouring gold rush town of Gulgong.


 
 

WHAT DO WE DO?
Olive Growers Mudgee’s aim is to develop and promote olive growing in the Mudgee region. We also aim to make our oils and olive products equal or superior to those from elsewhere in Australia or the world. To achieve this, we have several types of
activity:
• The annual Mudgee Olive Oil Awards. Also open to producers from other areas of Australia and indeed the world (July/August)
• Field Days, seminars and educational programs designed to help growers grow, process and assess quality olives and their products. Activities are often in association with the NSW Department of Agriculture, educational providers and industry sponsors.
• Participation in markets, fairs and promotional events.
• A regular Newsletter, published several times a year.
